The Core Practices micro-credential series will include 5 self-directed modules which can be taken independently ($25 each) or combined (5 for $100) with a 6th and final capstone project module ($50). Each module, excluding the free orientation module, will be the equivalent of 3 hours and include assigned readings/resources, pre-recorded video topical presentations, and reflective learning activities. The full series is equivalent to 20 hours. Participants will explore additional concepts and ideas introduced within the foundational, required text – Practice Principles: Career Theories and Models at Work.

Practice Principles Orientation (Free, 2 hours)
This module will:
- Provide a free orientation to the micro-credential series and LearnOnline e-learning site
- Summarize the Career Theories and Models at Work projects including the involvement of the co-authors and publisher, CERIC
- Summarize the research that resulted in the 8 career development practice principles and 5 core practices
- Provide a compelling rationale for completing each of the 5 modules to enhance practice

Module 1: Reflect ($25, 3 hours)
This module will:
- Introduce reflective theoretical approaches and practices
- Explore what it means to be a reflective practitioner within the current employment landscape
- Expand thinking on bias-free, trauma-informed, and inclusive practices
- Provide strategies for self-reflection including creating plans for professional development
- Provide strategies for supporting client reflections, attending to diversity and contextual factors
- Identify how to build in reflective practices before, during, and after working with clients

Module 2: Connect ($25, 3 hours)
This module will:
- Examine strategies for fostering mutual trust/respect and building a strong working alliance
- Introduce how to create a mattering climate and foster a culture of kindness
- Describe how to use responsive, client-centred approaches whereby the client serves as a compass actively guiding next steps
- Explore “attending” strategies for deepening client-practitioner connections
- Consider the dual-client model where individuals and employers are clients

Module 3: Contextualize ($25, 3 hours)
This module will:
- Introduce a holistic approach to career that incorporates a diverse set of dynamic, interconnected factors across work, life, and learning domains
- Summarize relevant system-based theories and models which extend beyond individual, client factors to include familial, peer, and cultural/societal factors
- Consider how power and privilege influence/intersect with opportunities and possibilities
- Examine the influence of organizational structures (e.g., service/funding mandates, job roles/responsibilities) and practitioner factors (e.g., boundaries of competence)

Module 4: Customize ($25, 3 hours)
This module will:
- Highlight the importance of program evaluation and client feedback in the data-informed customization of career service design and delivery
- Introduce how a design-thinking process can inform customization
- Consider client-level customization opportunities (e.g., age- and stage-appropriate, technology, accommodations, English language learner vs. low literary)
- Consider customization opportunities for implementation/delivery (e.g., individual vs. group, online vs. in-person, in-class vs. on-site)
- Examine how to identify service gaps and community needs, informing policy adjustments and/or prototype/pilot projects

Module 5: Collaborate ($25, 3 hours)
This module will:
- Identify the importance of empowering clients to develop agency, self-efficacy, and self-advocacy
- Introduce strategies for motivating the full spectrum of stakeholders involved in career development (i.e., the “village”)
- Explore how community partnerships can help fill service gaps and address community needs
- Examine how advocacy efforts can incorporate collective action and shifts in policy
- Emphasize the importance of fostering a professional network / career development community of practice

Capstone: Tying It All Together ($50, 3 hours)
This module is open to students who have completed all 5 Core Practices modules. Within the capstone module, students will focus on synthesizing their learning.
- Provide a summary of your own practice (e.g., What services/supports do you offer? Who are your clients? What career concerns/challenges are they grappling with?)
- Critically evaluate how you currently demonstrate the 5 Core Practices in your own practice
- Provide a recommendation for improvement within your own practice for each of the 5 Core Practices; for each recommendation, include a specific timeline and identify required resources and supports necessary for implementation.
