Jennifer Sumner
RCC
Instructor, CMPP
Jennifer Sumner (RCC) is a certified clinical counsellor and has a private practice on the West Coast of British Columbia. Her great passion is empowering clients, who include women, children, youth, individuals and families, with the knowledge and skillset to endure difficult passages in life to arrive at a place feeling secure and fulfilled. Jennifer has worked with youth and families, in school and community settings for over 10 years and her work has been featured in Education Canada Magazine’s article, Understanding the Heartbeat, exploring cultural identity and self-expression through art and history. Jennifer has also authored chapters for Career development for diverse clients: Beyond the Basics and is a Personality Dimensions trained facilitator. Jennifer is the creator of Finding Balance, a workshop for Mothers transitioning back into the workforce.
Jennifer holds a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia and is a member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. Jennifer is trained and experienced in a number of counselling modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gestalt, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness for Addiction Therapy. Jennifer has completed supervised practicums in Substance Use Services, Children and Youth Counselling and Career Counselling and Program Development.
Outside her work as a counsellor and educator, Jennifer is a wife, daughter and proud mother to two young children. Before becoming a counsellor she trained as a competitive dancer and worked as a and school teacher in the classroom and online setting with a focus on history, social justice and careers.
