Use of Assessment Processes and Tools in Career Development Services (2009)

Client: Forum of Labour Market Ministers, Career Development Services Working Group (FLMM-CDSWG)

The FLMM-CDSWG consists of federal, provincial, and territorial ministers with the shared goal of promoting discussion and cooperation among jurisdictions in regards to LMI-related concerns. Life Strategies has been involved in three FLMM-CDSWG projects.

This comprehensive data mapping project investigated the current use of assessment processes, models, and tools in career development services across Canada. The project included a comprehensive literature review, key informant interviews (with educators teaching assessment-related courses and curriculum developers/consultants with expertise in career assessment), and consultation with Working Group members to inform an interview protocol for key informants (i.e., 10 qualitative questions) and an extensive 42-question quantitative survey in both national languages. Participation rates were strong with representation from almost every province/territory; the resulting research report provided a clear overview of the use of assessment processes, models, and tools throughout the country. In addition, we identified potential next steps for the working group.
